We've collected all the needles in the haystack. Out of the hundreds of coffee machines available, we have selected a small range of the very best.
This simple introductory guide will assist you in finding the machine that is right for you.
There are four main classes of coffee machines in the market. We only provide machines from two of these classes, the Semi-Automatic and the Automatic.
Manual Machines
These are older style machines that rely on lever mechanism. These elegant looking machines can make an excellent coffee equally as much they can frustrate the less experience user in reaching the correct temperature and the appropriate pressure to extract that perfect cup of coffee.
Achieve Kafe does not sell these machines as they are very specialized and tend to interest only coffee connoisseurs.
Semi-Automatic Machines
As the name suggests these machines feature some manual and automatic features. This is the most popular class of machine sold in Australia as the machines are affordable and generally produce a great cup of coffee.
The common features that have been automated are the pump, boiler and temperature control mechanisms. The coffee grind, compacting of coffee into filter, activation of water and steaming of milk are manually controlled by the operator.
There are many machines in this class and prices vary greatly. The specialist coffee machines such as Gaggia and Saeco are constructed with stainless steel boilers which is beneficial in maintaining correct temperature of water and ensuring long lifespan of machine.
We have chosen a small range of semi automatic machines which we believe to be the best on the market - and we sell them at a great price! Check out our range.
Automatic Machines
These machines automate the coffee making process and generally brew a better and more consistent coffee. Normally, your coffee is served up quicker with virtually no mess to clean up afterwards. Many machines include an automated milk steaming devise such as a Milk Island with the option to manually steam milk with the traditional steam nozzle.
These machines normally have twin stainless steel boilers (one for steaming water and the other for dispensing water through the coffee filter). The twin boilers also allow you to make several cups of coffee in short time span and still maintain the correct temperature.
We have cherry-picked our favourite automatic machines and offer them at a great price. Click here to see our Automatic machines.
POD Machines
These machines come as semi-automatic or automatic and rely on pre-packaged coffee pods for the coffee intake. There are some good features with these machines, but there are features that we're not comfortable with. Many of these machines will only accept coffee pods that are unique to the manufacturer (similar to shaving razors). The pricing of coffee pods equates to around $100 per kilogram of coffee. This is about three times the going rate for good roasted beans.
Achieve Kafe does not stock these machines as they have a negative environment impact let alone the high ongoing cost of preparing coffee on these machines.
