Saeco coffee machines: A history of innovation

Saeco have been refining the automatic domestic coffee maker for over a quarter of a century. Each innovation is significant, but it is important to remember that the parts do not define the whole. Every Saeco machine is an integrated unit, drawing together the best technology, experience and knowledge, to create a magnificent coffee, every time.

• Saeco were the first to introduce the removable brewing group, making the whole process immeasurably easier.
• They followed this with 'The Twin'; it may seem surprising now, but until that point, you couldn't serve two cups simultaneously from a domestic machine.
• Heating space for the cups made another small improvement in the quality of the coffee.
• The Cappuccinatore created wonderful milk froth easily and reliably.
• In 1998, Saeco introduced the first fully automatic coffee machine with an electronic interface.
• Also in 1998, Saeco launched the celebrated Saeco Pre-Brewing technology, where the coffee is pre-moistened coaxing even more out of the grounds.
• SBS; Saeco Brewing System introduced a simple looking knob, which suddenly gave even greater control over the coffee.
• 2004 saw the introduction of the first touch screen interface.
• Also in 2004, Saeco introduced ceramic grinders, creating a cleaner, more consistent grind for the beans, and raising the bar for great tasting coffee, even higher.
• In 2007, the Saeco adapting system was launched, allowing the coffee machine to automatically adjust the settings for different types of beans.
• Energy saving was introduced in 2008, requiring less than 1W per hour in the auto stand-by mode.

Note that this list is only the major innovations that Saeco has introduced to the world. The list of additional features, like four stage water filtration, integrated milk handling and customisable profiles, is even more impressive.
